The Joseph Brant Hospital Redevelopment project involved the construction of a new, 7-story patient care tower, 172 new beds, 9 new operating rooms, an
emergency department, a post-anesthetic care unit, a new and expanded cancer clinic, expanded ambulatory care programs, expanded diagnostic imaging
services, and expanded medical, surgical and outpatient services. The EllisDon team also renovated the level 2B neonatal intensive care unit. The project is
targeting LEED silver certification.
Energy & Digital Services
The Joseph Brant Hospital network included 2 x 6800 series cores, with over 230 x Cisco 3850 edge switches installed in two MCR data centers, and 14 LAN
rooms throughout the facility. The wireless build consisted of two redundant controllers and over 650 Cisco wireless access points. A new Cisco call manager
was installed and the existing Avaya solution was migrated over to this new solution.
For the voice scope, EllisDon configured and deployed 1300 Cisco handsets ranging from 7811 series to 7861 series, over 250 analog phones, and 15 x Cisco
VG analog gateways for various devices. This also included deployment, integration, and configuration of 300 Spectralink handheld devices to be used by
clinical staff for two-way communication and integration to Nurse Call.
The telemetry scope of the project included deployment and commissioning of Phillips TWAPs, 6A data cabling, ceiling-mounted boxes, and master stations
throughout the new patient tower and existing facility. Additionally, 148 Telemetry WAPs, 25 Piix Master viewing stations, and 22 sync units were installed and
The integration scope consisted of the execution of 161 complex-use cases, connexall integration to various systems including Nurse Call, RTLS, CCTV,
Meditech, and Orion Health. A full HL7 and rules engine was installed and migrated their old engine into our new solution. EllisDon also installed patient
entertainment systems complete with over 350 TVs, custom ceiling mounts and custom pillow speakers integrated with the Ascom Nurse Call System.
